The Law
What Is a Prohibited Steps Order?
A Prohibited Steps Order is a court order under the Children Act 1989 that prevents a parent from taking an action in relation to a child without the court’s permission or without the other parents’ permission. It is an application that places a restriction on a parent regarding a certain action.
These are usually applied for if: (1) the child’s other parent has not involved you in a decision and you do not agree with them taking that action; (2) you can’t agree with the other parent regarding an action one parent wishes to take; (3) you are concerned the other parent may do something without your knowledge or permission, and you need to act.
